Childbirth and Fertility

Fertility

Clearing any past emotional issues can often be enough to enable women to conceive naturally. Acknowledging the effects of disappointments and feelings associated with infertility, and releasing these feelings with your partner, can help prevent depression.

If you are considering IVF or other fertility treatments, I can teach you effective techniques to help you feel relaxed and prepared for any fertility treatments you deicide to follow.

You can also undertake a body scan within hypnosis, to discover where any ‘blockages' are occurring, thus enabling you to clear them. This is a technique successfully used by a client who had been trying to conceive for quite some while. Within hypnosis, the date of her pregnancy came to her. She later wrote to me with a picture of her scan - her pregnancy had been confirmed during the month she named whilst in hypnosis.

Fertility issues which can be addressed are as follows:

  • Infertility (male and female)
  • Pre-IVF Treatment
  • IVF Treatment
  • Failed IVF Treatment
  • Increased Sperm Count

Loss of an unborn Child

Sadly, sometimes prospective parents have to cope with the loss of an unborn child. Hypnotherapy can help both parents through the grieving process, enabling them to come to terms with their loss, and helping them move forward with optimism and a positive frame of mind:

  • Coping after an Abortion
  • Miscarriage
  • Stillbirth

Pregnancy

A calm attitude within pregnancy is as essential to the developing foetus as a healthy diet and a body free of toxins such as nicotine and alcohol.  Hypnotherapy can help you develop healthy habits, successfully overcome unhealthy ones, and develop a calm, relaxed attitude:

  • Healthy Eating During Pregnancy
  • Healthy Pregnancy
  • Smoke-free Pregnancy
  • Alcohol-free Pregnancy
  • Morning sickness
  • Placenta Previa

Childbirth

Having a baby can be a traumatic experience with women often going through unimaginable pain. But an unconventional way to reduce pain is proving popular among modern mothers-to-be.

Hypnotherapy for childbirth is based on the belief that severe discomfort to the mother and distress to the baby is an unnatural accompaniment to labour. Women learn self-hypnosis, including simple but specialised relaxation and breathing techniques. These techniques can lead to an easier and sometimes pain-free birth.

Childbirth should be a wonderful and memorable moment in your life; one you want to remember fondly. With the help of hypnotherapy, the birth of your baby can be a more comfortable, calm, relaxed, natural, and rewarding experience: one where you are in control, and where you need less intervention from others.

  • Fear of Childbirth
  • Preparation for a Caesarean Section
  • Childbirthing Cycle
  • Drug-free Childbirth
  • Natural Childbirth

Early Days

The assumption is that after the birth of your child, everything will be rosy. Often, this is very far from the case. Hypnotherapy can help with:

  • Premature Babycare
  • Bonding with your New Baby
  • Breastfeeding an Adopted Baby
  • Crying Baby
  • Over-protective Mothers

Post-Natal Depression

One in eight women suffer from Post-Natal Depression. Most of them just develop what is commonly called "baby blues"-usually feelings of sadness and dissociation from the baby and surroundings, which passes in a few days. Different women experience the same feelings in different intensities depending on several factors.

It can be quite a disturbing experience for any new mother and her husband/partner: after months of excitement and preparation, looking forward to the day when they are finally going to meet their new child, to suddenly feel disinterested and utter dissociation in the baby is very confusing and painful.

Post-Natal Depression is worse than normal sadness and "baby blues". Usually, it occurs within twelve months of having a baby, most probably during the first few weeks and months.  It ranges in severity from very mild to severe and lingering symptoms. Post-Natal Depression is most common after the first pregnancy.

Symptoms can include:

  • feelings of disinterest and dissociation from the baby
  • feelings of inadequacy and guilt
  • low self-esteem and confidence
  • feeling that life has lost meaning
  • feeling unable to cope
  • tearfulness and irritability
  • disrupted sleeping and eating patterns
  • anxiety, heart palpitations
  • feeling useless and helpless
  • negative thoughts

Hypnotherapy can be of great help after the mother's level of depression has been treated to a mild-moderate level through anti-depressants. Often mothers feel better with anti-depressants and sleeping tablets, but may feel a lack of control over their feelings and thoughts. This is where hypnotherapy can be a positive force.

Note:  Post-Natal Depression should not be confused with Puerperal Psychosis (also called post partum psychosis or post-natal psychosis), a rare but serious psychotic condition which requires urgent medical support.
